La Liga preview, 29 November – 1 December

The 2019/20 La Liga season will have its 15th round this weekend, 29 November to 1 December 2019, with SuperSport viewers on DStv and GOtv set to be treated to some brilliant action from Spain’s top flight.

The top match from La Liga this weekend is one that SuperSport viewers will not want to miss, as Atletico Madrid host Barcelona on Sunday night at Estadio Wanda Metropolitano for a clash which will be key in the battle for the title.

Taking points off a championship rival is essential and Atletico will be determined to end the recent domination Barca have enjoyed over them: the Blaugrana are unbeaten in their last eight matches against the Rojiblancos (across all competitions) and claimed a 2-0 win – thanks to goals from forwards Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi – when the teams last met back in April.

A repeat result would be a major blow to manager Diego Simeone’s hopes of returning Atletico’s name to the list of La Liga champions, while his counterpart Ernesto Valvede continues to be under major pressure and will need a strong showing in the capital to keep rumours of an imminent demise at bay.

Real Madrid will hope to capitalise on dropped points for one or possibly both of their main rivals in the above-mentioned game by claiming all three points on offer this weekend when they head to Deportivo Alaves on Saturday afternoon. Yet Los Blancos will be wary of the challenge posed by Babazorros El Glorioso, as this is exactly the kind of away La Liga game in which they have come undone so often in recent seasons, and the atmosphere at Estadio de Mendizorroza is sure to be a spicy one.

SuperSport viewers will also be treated to Friday night clash to open the round, as Celta de Vigo will look to pick up three much-needed points when they host Real Valladolid at Abanca Balaidos, while Saturday night sees an intriguing clash between two of La Liga‘s dark horses as Valencia welcome Villarreal, with the latter banking on the attacking power provided by African stars Karl Toko Ekambi and Samuel Chukwueze.

On Sunday, as we build toward the Atletico v Barca clash,  DStv and GOtv subscribers can whet their appetite with Sevilla v Leganes, Athletic Bilbao v Granada, Espanyol v Osasuna and Getafe v Levante – all live on your Channel of Champions.
